The glass sphere is first evacuated to high vacuum, then iodine is distilled into it, ensuring the sphere contains only very pure iodine. Because iodine sublimates and recondenses, keeping the sphere at around 40°C for continuous “cultivation” can produce very large, attractive iodine crystals, with diameters of several millimeters—the largest iodine crystals I’ve seen anywhere online so far.
It’s recommended to grow them in a warm spot such as inside a computer case or near a heater.
Due to vibrations during shipping that can disrupt crystallization, you’ll need to regrow the crystals after receiving the sphere; this typically takes about one to two weeks.
Size: The diameter of the glass sphere is 6 cm.
